"This is water. What I want is the ocean."

Probably the most mature Pixar movie to date, with themes as complex and heavy as Up or Inside Out. This is the best looking 3D animated film I've ever seen, with both the fantastical and realistic settings looking amazing.

Definitely see this appealing to older viewers, jazz fans, and people who have experienced wondering about their purpose, their spark. This is also some of the best African-American representation I've seen on…

"The only way to get rid of temptation is to yield to it."

I know nothing about writer/director Joshua Friedlander, but I'm going to make some assumptions, just for fun.

I'm going to assume he's a married, heterosexual male.

I'm going to assume he was watching Game of Thrones one night, and saw Nathalie Emmanuel (who is objectively gorgeous, the rest of my assumptions all rest on that fact).

I'm assuming this gave him normal, heterosexual male thoughts.

Much less mystifying on the second viewing, which makes it both more and less enjoyable. I wanted to expose my partner to some slightly less conventional cinema because she really enjoyed Vanilla Sky, and to her credit  she understood way more of this on her first viewing than I did on mine.

I’d never heard of this one before randomly decide to watch it on Netflix. It’s pretty funny, with lots of opportunities for Tom Hanks to flex his comedic chops and multiple funny minor and supporting characters (including some Carrie Fisher goodness).

It’s a petty minor movie in the grand scheme of things, but I was entertained.

Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery

    ★★★½

Glass Onion is not just a repeat of Knives Out. This is a good thing. Glass Onion does its own thing and does it well while telling a new mystery that's as neatly wrapped up and coherent as the first movie. It's stylish, interesting, funnier than I expected, and perfectly paced.

But did I personally find it to be as good as Knives Out, which is absolutely one of my favorite movies of the last five years? No.

    These characters…

Greta Gerwig continues to do Greta Gerwig things, managing to extract more from a 150+ year old novel than I expected. There’s just not anything to complain about here. The cast is great, every location and scene and bit of costuming looks good, it’s honestly the most solidly 4 star movie I’ve seen in quite a while.
