An absolute masterclass in suspenseful filmmaking, Dunkirk is going to be one of the greats.
With its time jumping narrative, minimal dialogue, and lack of bloody combat scenes, Nolan has served up a different take on the war genre that delivers a one-two punch to the gut unlike anything I've ever experienced at the cinema before.
Truly, edge of your seat stuff. It's one long set piece featuring some of the most beautiful cinematography I've ever seen.
And for the naysayers looking for a main character - well that's Hans Zimmers' absolutely amazing score that does the honours there.
Throw in the fact that a 99 year old man who was at Dunkirk attended the screening last night to a huge round of applause, I basically was a wreck the entire time.
Immersive and powerful. Special. All the hyperbolic words basically. A must see.
