2021 Queer Film Challenge #11: a film directed by M.J. Bassett.
I completely understand why this movie has terrible reviews from normie Letterboxd reviewers and rave reviews from the queerdos I follow. Sure, it's tonally all over the place, the actors seem to think they're in five different movies (I'm pretty sure Malcolm McDowell was just playing Aughra), and there are so many startle fakeouts that by the end I had completely stopped reacting to them. But could there possibly be a more satisfying trans girl fantasy than merging with your demonic mall-goth doppelgänger, setting fire to a bunch of fascists, and then destroying a fundamentalist religious cult with the help of your ten-foot-tall himbo executioner buddy?
P.S. The moment the ash begins to fall on Silent Hill again, signifying that The Darkness Has Returned™, is when a bunch of cops enter it. Not sure if that was intentional but it's perfect and hilarious.
