    On the Rocks

On the Rocks entered 2020 quietly. Among the unrest, its delicacy is embracing in ways that Coppola hasn't been to me for some time. Really warm and very needed.

Weirdly lacking in tension despite everyone's best efforts. I'd seen it before somewhere but forgot it existed, so there's that.

Love, Death & Robots: Sonnie's Edge

Infantile, hormone driven nonsense which has the balls to attempt some kind of bullshit, pseudo feminist revenge narrative while making sexual objects of its "characters" (if they can even be described as that) without narrative grounding. The fact this show markets itself as 'mature animation' then starts with this is perhaps its greatest sucker punch.

    Doctor Sleep

At what point do we start taking works of cinema seriously? Their memory, their feeling, their cultural and personal histories preserved. Protecting stories, their beginnings and ends, their meanings, without altering or harmful reconfiguration. The Shining for me is untouchable cinema in every essence. But, I gave it a chance. A hopeful, blind, naive chance that stuck an axe in my heart. Doctor Sleep will be locked in a mental box, and I hope to never be haunted by it again.
