Food of the Gods II ★★★

Food of the Gods II (aka Gnaw) frequently descends too far into camp absurdity, but it actually manages to be just as entertaining as Bert I. Gordon’s predecessor whilst crucially retaining the environmentalist ethos of H. G. Wells’ source material. There are many other wonderful things to be enjoyed with this film, including, but not limited to: a Clint Eastwood-channelling exterminator who brings a flamethrower to kill some rats; one of the most god-awful scores I have ever heard that sounds like someone playing a keyboard with a hammer; a truly insane sexual fantasy-dream sequence; and a scene where someone swells grotesquely before melting into green pus. Overall, then, an enjoyably mad sequel.
