One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest

One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest ★★★★½

This movie for me was constantly unexpected which I appreciated as I haven’t felt that way about a movie in a long time.

From the very first scene, Nicholson is an amazing screen presence - he seems to be the only thing alive, a complete contrast to everyone and everything around him.

Another thing I was not expecting was the complexity of the characters and how good the acting was. Nicholson seems like he was made for the role, I’m not sure if he was or if he’s just very, very good at acting it. There were so many other characters that completely disappeared into their roles too.

If I had to point out one flaw, it’d be the way it was shot. At some times, especially in the beginning, the camera movement felt like a documentary and not really a good one either. I’m not sure if it was intentional but unfortunately it did pull me out a few times.

Overall though, a very thought-provoking and complex story which I really enjoyed. Another great pick for Film Club!
