From June 30 to August 21, the Frankfurt open-air cinema had its ninth season. As in the two previous years, the courtyard of the Old Police Headquarters has been won over for the popular Frankfurt summer event - one of the most exciting off-locations in the city! Week after week, current cinema highlights were shown there on the evenings from Thursday to Sunday.
For example, Cem Kaya's impressive documentary "Aşk, Mark ve Ölüm" (Love, D-Mark and Death) about the 60-year music culture of Turkish migrants in the FRG, which won the audience award at this year's Berlinale and sent audiences at the 15th LICHTER Film Festival into euphoria at a sold-out screening. Ridley Scott's "House of Gucci" starring a superbly acted Lady Gaga, is also part of the program, as is "Parallel Mothers" (Madres paralelas), the latest feature film by Pedro Amodóvar, starring Penélope Cruz and Milena Smit. Other titles included: "Rabiye Kurnaz vs. George W. Bush", "Licorice Pizza", "Spencer", "Red Rocket", "Paris, 13th District", "The Card Counter" and "The Father". As in previous years, the program featured current world cinema as well as some cinema classics.
As part of the celebrations for the 30th anniversary of Christopher Street Day, there were two special screenings with the films "Great Freedom" on July 7 and "Portrait of a Lady on Fire" on July 8.
With a musical accompanying program, cold drinks at the open-air cinema bar and culinary delicacies from Brittany by Chez Vivi, the open-air cinema Frankfurt is more than cinema: It is a place that invites you to stay - for an all-round successful summer evening. - Also, the Old Police Headquarters between the main train station and the exhibition grounds has been largely empty since 2002. That's 20 years now, during which time has left its mark and created an off-location that gives the open-air cinema a very special charm.
