    The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie

    ★★★★½

With the possible exception of Patrick’s attraction to Mindy, literally every element of this movie works and is perfectly calibrated. Not a second is wasted, no idea is drawn out longer than it needs to be. Movies do not get much better than this:

  • Honor Society

    Honor Society

    ★★★½

Not the Angourie Rice vehicle she deserves (it would be nice if there was an actual edge to this film instead of just flashes of one) but she makes it work anyways.

  • Prey

    Prey

    ★★½

Not particularly inspired or surprising but it gets the job done and it’s pretty fun.

  • Star 80

    Star 80

    ★★★½

Incredibly bleak and hard to sit through but in a good way. Maybe.

  • All That Jazz

    All That Jazz

    ★★★★½

I’m going to need to sit with this one for a while and sort out my many feelings but my god, the last ten minutes of this thing captivated me more than anything has in some time.

    Yep, still very good.

“It’ll be okay Angel. We don’t deserve the impossible.”

  • The Lorax

This overwhelmingly won the movie night vote at camp so I’m glad the children are happy I guess.

  • Thor: Love and Thunder

    Thor: Love and Thunder

    ★★½

Wow this is an odd one. It has stuff I like (Mainly Bale and whatever the fuck Crowe is doing) and I’m drawn to how messy it is to the point that I know I’ll rewatch it at least a few times to try and get my head around it. But, even knowing that there was no way one two-hour movie would give Jane’s story as The Mighty Thor the care and depth that the comics gave it, I was…

  • Lightyear

    Lightyear

    ★★½

Saw this with my younger sister who I had not seen in three years because she’s an international teacher and she loved it so it gets the heart this time around though my problems with the movie remain.

  • Sunshine

    Sunshine

    ★★★½

Pretty cool. During the third act a dog started barking loudly at one of the people in the room but it kind of added to the experience

  • Red Rocket

    Red Rocket

    ★★★½

I struggled a lot with this one for the first half and then suddenly I locked in hard with what this movie was doing and was enthralled for the last hour or so. I think I am going to go back and forth on how much I actually like this one a lot but but Simon Rex sure is giving it his all.
