no one can portray romance quite live WKW. maybe that's why i like his films so much. there is something so fleeting about it, maybe it's the fact that they take place almost exclusively at night, surrounded by neon signs and countless strangers as a backdrop, but maybe it is because love is just like the night, short-lived and sudden, secluded and withdrawn, and that is exactly what he encapsulates. whatever it is, there is just some element in his movies that doesn't seem to be replicable, and that is what is so special about them, everything that can't be put into words.
