favourites at the moment:
“Something is off. Your clothes never wear as well the next day. Your hair never falls in quite the same way. Even your coffee tastes wrong. Our institutions are crumbling. Nobody trusts their neighbor anymore. And you stay up at night wondering to yourself… How can we get back?”
My mom and I watched this together, but I did not expect to be called out about our relationship like that. I related Joy a lot; I don’t call my mom…
I bought space candy and got violently high before going to the theaters to see this film. It was in mostly cantonese with dutch subtitles, and neither of them I speak, so it was definitely an interesting experience.
I barely understood anything that was happening so I started making up my own story. But the visual part of it was absolutely stunning so without understanding the storyline i was still mesmerized and intrigued the whole time.
Can’t wait to rewatch this and actually understand what’s going on because I know that this has more to offer than just the cinematography.
This film reminded me a lot of philosopher Descartes' theory. Because according to him, what we experience in dreams, in principle, could be indistinguishable from real life, and there is not enough evidence to be certain that this, right now is not a dream. So how can we be sure that we are not always dreaming?
Nonetheless, I love Satoshi's work and I am happy that I got to see this at the cinema. It was one of those films…
