Goes hard, the not-so-missing link between Soylent Green and Blade Runner. Those monochrome gridmap computer graphics look stupidly good for 1981. Carpenter has a good eye for what I like to call verbal greebling. Lines such as “you flew the five-wing over Leningrad, didn’t you?” mean absolutely squat as far as the story’s concerned and contain referents that are never mentioned again but lend texture to the cruel and chaotic world just beyond the frame. K-punk as hell.
