It doesn't feel like much to watch until you finish it, but then it all kinda sinks in. Ang Lee has such a light touch.
Nothing if not a masterful control of tone - I’ve never seen anything that skates between whimsy, tragedy, comedy, and grotesquery quite so perfectly. It’s also a small movie, in a way, with the wonders of detail filling in a tried-and-true story. For how strange Edward is, it’s the uncanny society he interrupts that Burton really digs into. Those housewives blissing out to his dangerously moving blades is a stark, memorable image.
