The Irishman provides a fantastic vehicle to present its three leads (Deniro, Pesci and Pacino) in what is not only a gangster film in the vein of Casino and Goodfellas set around the Hoffa era but a treatise on the twilight years of its characters and in turn the actors and Scorsese himself.
I realize that’s a long sentence and I suppose that’s fitting because the film tends to run overlong. It also isn’t without its issues. It is anything but…
