Levi’s review published on Letterboxd:
At some points Knives Out assumed too much of the audience- that is, that we have the same appreciation and adoration for the main character (Marta) as the movie does. This is the only complaint I have for it, overall. Too much utter plot hinges on this character for the dynamic of the characters around her to feel natural (not that any of the characters are natural in themselves). The audience wants to root for the detective, and, as all of the character’s natures unfold throughout the story, we find that no one here is the “best”- Marta seems to have have outsmarted Detective Blanc, but she herself doesn’t in turn take confidence upon herself. Marta, in my opinion, would have been a stronger role in the movie had she been portrayed simply as a lot more confident. From this point stems the only other minor problems I have with the movie, and the thing was a joy to sit through.
