The Godfather

The Godfather ★★★★★

The 1972 - Oh no five-oh challenge #12

"What did he say? Badda-beep, badda-bap, badda-boop, badda-beep, he wants us to send Michael to hear the proposition, and the promise is the deal is so good we can't refuse. Hey."

Is this the best film made in 1972 (or any year for that matter)...yes, is it my favourite film made in, that goes to What's Up Doc...what can I say, it's my strange logic folks! It is however the most riveting 3 hours of cinema, music, sets, costumes and of course acting that you will see anywhere. Pacino is fantastic, long before he started that over the top Hoo-ah acting, James Caan too, just brilliant, that scene where he beats the shit out of his brother in law...brutal. I love too those peripheral characters Luca Brasi, Enzo the Baker and of course movie producer Jack Woltz 🐴
Strangely perhaps if anyone mentions The Godfather to me, the first image that always jumps into my head is that of Sterling Hayden grasping for air after Pacino shoots him in the throat, it's a remarkable scene and image.
I think I need to let my eldest watch this, just don't tell his mum 🤐

"Hey. What are you gonna do? Nice college boy, huh? Didn't want to get mixed up in the family business? Now you want to gun down a police captain, what, 'cause he slapped you in the face a little bit, huh? What do you think, this the Army where you shoot 'em a mile away? No, you gotta get up close like this - badda-bing! - you blow their brains all over your nice Ivy League suit. C'mere."
