Wow. A new personal favourite.
John Carpenter gives the audience blistering frostbite by showing them cult film The Thing. This film is very atmospheric and gets more and more engaging as each second ticks by, but also more and more thrilling as each second ticks by. The surface-level scares are so utterly mad that they are sure to horrify you, thanks to sensational practical effects and exquisite cinematography...and the deeper scares, the traces of psychology buried beneath the snow, are also sure to boil your blood. A fantastic ensemble of performances help each character stand out, an eerie score helps set off the fire alarm but really it's Carpenter's direction that truly makes this a horror masterpiece.
