Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness ★★★½

“Just because someone stumbles and loses their way doesn’t mean they are lost forever.”

So yea I still really like it. I’m so stuck between a 3.5 and 4 still. Going into it for a second time, I put all my cameo hopes and certain expectations to the side and I did like it a bit more like I knew I would. I’m just such a raimi fan boy and the second and third act are so entertaining and well done to me. His over the top style is all over it and I love all of the creepy visuals and the horror elements are so nice to see in the MCU. The CGI looks so good in this and stands out in the MCU as one of the better looking films for sure. Wanda was so much better as the villain than I was anticipating so seeing it again just confirmed how much I loved her. Although it’s a bit disappointing seeing the Illuminati get wiped out so quickly, seeing her just straight up destroy them was so cool and unexpected when you really think about it.

She has never came off more powerful than she does here. But I cant help but feel bad for her. She’s obviously in the wrong but after the stuff in WandaVision and fixing her mistakes, I would’ve thought she would never do something awful like that again. But her having dreams of alternative versions of herself happy with her children that she created in our universe with magic is crazy and such a nice character arc. I just think the when we are centered on Wanda it’s a great time but it’s a Doctor Strange sequel and Wanda being the standout is a bit of a flaw. The stuff with Strange is still really good in my opinion and is getting a little overshadowed sadly. It’s an on going question in the film if he is genuinely happy and I found that interesting. The dude has to be so stressed out all the time with having one of the most important jobs as a superhero and he doesn’t have much real family.

The relationship with Christine is so much better here than the first film and I liked how she was used within the plot. The biggest problem I have is just how I really can see a significantly better version of this film out there. Their was so much more Multiversal Madness that could’ve been explored but the story is rushed for some reason. The pacing is good cause of that but a story needs time to rest and let the audience have a second and at times it does and others it doesn’t really. Also the scene where they travel to different universes in like a minute is such a wasted opportunity. I like the scene but I don’t know, I just wanted more then what we got. Coming off the No Way Home hype expectations were justifiably extremely high and some of it was met and a lot wasn’t. As much as it may sound like I’m critiquing the movie, Im close to loving it. I love Spider-Man 3 for example but that movie could’ve been ten times better than it was and that’s how this film made me feel. I just hope this isn’t the last of the multiverse stuff we see cause their is so much more that could be done and so many more stories to be told.
