    Earth

    ★★★

Alright so here’s the thing. I got a sweet spot for the slightly over saturated “through a child’s eyes” genre, and for the first half of Earth, I was sure this was gonna crawl to the top of my rankings. I understand this is based on a true story, but I can’t excuse the film for the laziness of the screenplay as it winded down. I mean some of the words coming out of the actor’s mouths baffled me. I almost feel guilty for not loving this, considering how harsh the context is, but this just didn’t land for me.

    As Good as It Gets

I will vouch for Jack Nicholson all day, everyday, but what on earth is this? Was I suppose to like anyone? Was I suppose to look past that there was a 20+ year age gap between the two leads? I GET WHAT THIS WAS GOING FOR, and I enjoyed some of it, but the rest just had me cringe.

    Midsommar

    ★★★

Midsommar has a lot going for itself. The cinematography and the performance from the lead actress are the standouts, but it falls short of its predecessor by miles. The film struggles with one dimensional characters, plot holes and serious tonal issues; The final 30 minutes bumped its rating up, but overall this was wasted potential and I can’t wrap my head around how Aster went from Hereditary to this.

he should see a therapist, some of the writing is sickening

    Joker

    ★★★★

Joker felt so pretentious and unoriginal, yet at the same time it felt so unique, terrifying and genius. Phoenix’s performance was astounding (not comparable to Ledger’s, sorry) and the picture itself was gorgeous. This will be all over Oscar ballots and I’m not mad.
