WOW. Wow. amazing camera work and direction, a haunting score, a beautiful color palette, and the shot in the lake moved me to tears. if lynne ramsey doesn't get an oscar nom there is no fucking justice. FUCK there's nothing joaquin phoenix can't do

  • Flower

this movie goes from ~30 to 100 REAL quick. I love the writing, love the costume and art design, love the cinematography (go women), and Zoey Deutch and Kathryn Hahn are wonderful

  • Life-Size 2

    Life-Size 2

i was obligated to watch this bc of nostalgia reasons but god damn was it worth it to hear tyra say to herself "i'm rooting for you, we're ALL rooting for you"

  • Minding the Gap

    Minding the Gap

WOW. I'm fucking blown away. THIS is what I wanted Mid90s to be. Such a poignant, personal, incredibly touching documentary about growing up as a middle class male. Bing Liu is truly a fucking revelation and I could feel his sigh of relief through the last 20 minutes of the film, although it's not exactly uplifting. I was hesitant about the hype for this, but it's very real.

  • The Ballad of Buster Scruggs

    The Ballad of Buster Scruggs

Although visually stunning, this is not one of my favorite films of the year, in a year filled with such stiff competition. This feels very Coen brothers, but the tone shifts a little too drastically and some shorts are stronger than others.

  • Mary Poppins Returns

    Mary Poppins Returns

    how DARE THEY!!!

This was like bedknobs and broomsticks on crack...emily blunt is truly charming as mary poppins and i forgot how magical movies can be. this has been rough year for me, and this movie let me remember what it was like to have such an uncynical view of the world. i loved every minute and every song.

  • The Christmas Chronicles

    The Christmas Chronicles

this was cute. i had no idea i needed kurt russell as santa claus but i did.

  • Private Life

    Private Life

i am BLOWN away. this is one of the best movies I've seen this year. Paul Giamatti and Kathryn Hahn continue to be the most underrated actors and Kayli Carter is incredible. I have not been touched by a film like this in some time.

  • The Favourite

    The Favourite

i wanna sit and ruminate on this more but i will say never has their been a more BEAUTIFUL film and nicholas hoult was absolutely thriving. OBVIOUSLY this is some of the best acting of the entire year, but something about it felt not quite as Yorgos-y to me. Might need to revisit the Lobster.

But if Olivia Colman doesn't get an Oscar for that scene during the ball I will RIOT

  • Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse

    The End of the Tour

i thought i was gonna like this way more than i actually did. It was perfectly fine but Jesse Eisenberg and Jason Segel were more than perfectly fine in it. it did inspire me to read infinite jest though.
