i don’t think we’ve ever seen a character like celeste ever before on film. or at least i haven’t. and nowadays that’s pretty rare. most characters and films at least remind you of something but with vox lux i felt like i was watching something totally fresh. i thought the second act was probably the strongest and it takes a while to get going, but when it does, it’s great, and that’s mainly down to natalie portman, who is amazing here as usual. she definitely deserved more recognition for this performance. raffey cassidy was great too. as soon as i saw her in sacred deer i knew she would go on to do great things, so can’t wait to see her career unfold. also i can’t not mention jude law. he was fantastic, this performance isn’t like anything i’ve seen from him before.
