Shame ★★★

Shame's cold-shoulder demeanor firstly appears proper for its protagonist (Brandon, embodied brilliantly by Fassbender) on account of Brandon's solitude and deep cynicism; but once Brandon's addiction and past demons have reached full form, and director Steve McQueen adheres still to his refusal to elaborate on either, it seems that McQueen doesn't actually know a path on which to take Shame that differs from any other addiction narrative or that offers any new or more personal insights (other than implied incest).
