It's not a great film, at least for me. It honestly feels quite practical and simple, but this is one of those cases where the performance of its protagonist puts it on another level and Eddie Murphy carries this film completely on his back with his splendid performance.
This is his first film since the disappointing Mr. Church and although with Dolemite is My Name he re-introduced some small elements of drama, it's the full comedy where the story shines and Murphy too.
I still don't know why he likes to make such bad comedies when he has the talent to do things like this. Definitely his best performance since Dreamgirls and personally I prefer that performance but still this is a fun, entertaining, informative and satisfying film.
A pretty good option on Netflix that I feel is passing by unnoticed.
