    The Night House

The viewer can take this movie as a metaphorical exploration of grief, or as a literal semi-bonkers subgenre blender. Or both at the same time. For me the metaphorical part works best, but I was intrigued by the literal story until the final twist, which simply felt like it took things a bit too far. The grand reveal seems like it was an unfinished story element that was less important and less well developed than the preceding twists.

The scares, sound design, and pacing are very well done.

Well acted with a cast and creative team of heavyweights. But the details fo the plot are difficult for me to believe.

Side note: this could have just been a podcast.

Tom Hanks in a funny, smart slasher movie. Sure, it’s a Halloween clone, but it successfully combines elements of gialli and detective thrillers into the mix.

Intriguing use of the slasher to convey some very timely ideas. Good soundtrack too. Not all of the execution worked for me, but there is more than enough here to recommend watching.
