What I love about this is that even the bit parts remind you that everyone has a unique individual history and no matter how different we may seem, we find commonality in certain universal, shared experiences—love, loss, mortality etc.—Fincher ultimately weaving this tapestry of interconnected lives across multiple years to profound effect. And if that sounds like uncritical fawning it’s only because this is the kind of film that inspires it. Disarmed and astounded by this every time I rewatch it.
