Luke Starkey’s review published on Letterboxd:
Red Sparrow definitely hit a little harder with the first viewing, but even then, so much of this movie has since escaped me, it’s needless to say its impression isn’t lasting.
I’ve just revisited It for the first time and overall, I wasn’t particularly impressed. It's both dull and slow. A lengthy drag that gets too bogged down in its moody tones, and the sex appeal which is really anything but appealing.
At its best, it does have its moments. Too few and far between, the action is intense, and the suspense is effective. This leads me to conclude that if Red Sparrow was simply tighter, and had a tad more energy, it’d be an entirely different movie for all the right reasons.
You can easily skip this one. Off the top of my head, I can think of at least half a dozen movies that do this exact premise a world better.
