A lovely little daydream about village life with a dash of a parable. Chaplin does indulge a little bit with the dancing girls sequence but there are a lot of good gags. But he accomplishes what he always does, capturing humanity and heart. I always underestimate this row of films before he made The Kid, need to revisit more of them.
