    What’s the big deal:

Books upon books about this shit.
Tied with The Godfather for best movie ever according to many lists.
Culturally synonymous with a ‘magnum opus’. (Ex: Rick Sanchez refer's to to Jerry Smith’s blartworthy movie, Last Will and Testameow: Weekend at Dead Cat Lady's House as being Jerry's ‘Citizen Kane’, and Jerry as Orson Wells respectively).

    What parts are usually studied:

Deep Focus: Combining multiple focal planes into one…

    MAD MAX: FURY ROAD
    What’s the big deal:

Unless you live under a tanker, you know this movie is a BIG DEAL. The special effects alone constitute a ‘cinema of attractions’ ontop of the brilliant storyline.

    What parts are usually studied:

The simplicity of the plot in favor of cinematic imagery.
    ALL THE FIRE 🔥-REAL FLAMES-🔥
Feminist framing of ‘the wives’ (esp. during the water break)
Charlize Theron and Tom Hardy are rockstars of facial expressions on the Fury Road.

    How important:
    Extremely

    What’s the big deal:

The first film shown to me as an Undergrad. To this day it boils in the back of my mind. PURE GENUIS.

    What parts are usually studied:

Long Takes: The use of extended shots without montage really makes this film bear on your physical condition, sitting on the edge of your seat waiting to see what is next. The ping-pong ball car scene is…

    What’s the big deal:

Wow, just by the initial title sequence you can tell that Fincher watches lots of music-videos.
In all seriousness, this is a dark and gory stroll down the seven sins. It holds back just enough for Fincher’s slow-burn style to settle in.

    What parts are usually studied:

Oof, it basically follows the male buddy detective formaula, adds the mentoring/retiring aspect, and serial killer. What is important is Fincher’s approach with lighting and camera distance.

    How important:

    Medium.

    What’s the big deal:

The ruthless struggles of capitalism using an allegory of a train.

    What parts are usually studied:

The action sequences are beautifully put together with classical music.  Juxtaposition is a bitch.

    How important:

    Mild

    What’s the big deal:

Might be the most original horror movie of the decade. Creepy and ethically terrifying, it is a brilliant piece from renowned comedian Jordan Peele

    What parts are usually studied:

    Racial politics as modern horror.

    How important:

    Increasing by the day
