That was one big pile of shit.

Similar to The Rise of Skywalker in that this is an awful conclusion to a beloved series, but the difference is that, whilst TROS was concluding a long-winded story, Dominion doesn’t really have a story to conclude, because these films were never really story-driven in the first place. And that’s fine, as long as the film you make thrills and excites regardless. But that’s just not the case here. This annoys me because…

Beyond superb. Matt Reeves’ The Batman is one of the very few instances where a superhero film looks and feels exactly like a graphic novel.

Visually, it’s not just that it’s gritty and grim and grounded, but that Gotham feels real. All the attention is centred towards making this city tactile and alive, and it pays off. And all the red and the orange, the utter darkness of every frame, the electric editing for the action sequences — it’s immense. …

Light and cute, but I far preferred this as an exploration of the post-university limbo than as a rom-com. Perhaps it’s because I find myself in said limbo at the moment but regardless, as this became more focused on its romantic elements, it also became more conventional, and ultimately less gripping. Oh well, still plenty to like here in terms of the angsty dialogue and the performances. Ryder doesn’t disappoint, as per usual, and Hawke is solid as the moody, existentialist love interest.

Watched this primarily for Edgar-Jones, and she doesn’t disappoint. She’s really great, as is David Strathairn in his small role. In fact, I’ve hardly a bad thing to say about the cast; they’re all good. But this isn’t the kind of film that can be solely carried by performances.

Crawdads essentially has to function on three different levels to succeed. For one, it needs to serve as a compelling murder mystery and a courtroom drama that actively keeps the viewer…

I love this band so much. These 7 guys and all the music they’ve made has literally made my life immeasurably better. And now they have a film!!!! This is essentially a mix between a behind the scenes doc and a concert film, shot with gorgeous 16mm unbroken takes around the stage. So simple but so damn good. It’s unbelievable, hugely enjoyable stuff. The music, the people, the laughs, the drinks, the stage dives. And on top of it all,…

No better way to spend my birthday evening than watching this with my family and stuffing my face with cake and ice cream.

This film kicks ass. It always has and it always will.
