One after the other, intellectual film makers attempted to tackle the post 9/11 mainstream topic, Terrorism. The furthest they went on capturing terrorism's essence was repackaging trite assumptions held by the common folks. And then comes this film, and swiftly nails it on the head, without taking itself seriously and being too on the nose.

Roger Ebert wrote in his review

"Redford and his writer, Richard Friedenberg, understand that most of the events in any life are accidental or arbitrary, especially the crucial ones, and we can exercise little conscious control over our destinies. Instead, they understand that the Reverend Maclean's lessons were about how to behave no matter what life brings; about how to wade into the unpredictable stream and deal with whatever happens with grace, courage and honesty. It is the film's best achievement that it communicates that message with such feeling."

The 20th century infatuation with science culminated in this wank stain of a film. Fifty years later and the interest in science has vastly receded, another 30 it will be mocked at. Get off your high horses.
