Ethan Inglis’s review published on Letterboxd:
Part 5 of Film Wars (Conclusion): The Night of the Hunter vs Chinatown.
Many film connoisseurs, myself included, label this as the best screenplay of all time. Let's just say it's for good reason.
-Listed above, I consider this film to have the best screenplay of all time.
-Every scene informs the full picture, whether through development of the plot, themes, or characters.
-Jack Nicholson's best performance.
-Every character is so well written and acted to the peak of ability.
-One of the best Noir films there is, up there with The Third Man.
-Jerry Goldsmith's, now prolific, film score.
-One of the most personally dark endings of all time, but also one of the most quoted endings.
-All of the things, another one of my "five-star" films.
-Roman Polanski is a trash human being and has, with his behavior, tainted this film's status.
Winner: Definitely Chinatown.
