Iris and the Lieutenant 1946
Announces its intentions from the beginning with a direct reference to the "old movie" Waterloo Bridge, and the existential dread isn't relieved until the very last shot.
This is some kind of kitchen sink melodrama that seemingly exists outside of the history of film style, and where all possible mise-en-scene artifacts must be ruled on.
