Mutiny on the Bounty ★★★½

Really interesting movie. There seems to be more reverence towards indigenous people than you would normally find in this sort of film - the one time a guy refers to a Tahitian man as a "savage" he's instantly chided. Of course there is a long tradition of racist condescension in the portrayal of the happy native, but when contrasted against the cruelty and corruption of British power it's very striking. The film itself doesn't seem particularly convinced by its own ending, either. It's almost radical how dreamlike the supposed positive changes within military protocol are played.
