kitty winn really sold this movie. it's hard to match al pacino's boundless energy, but winn has this quiet change throughout this film that makes for the strongest performance in the film. it's like her early knitted-hat-wearing self is a different person to the disheveled character of the conclusion. her ritual of hiding the track marks on her arms is a really amazing scene. the kind of movie you watch for the two leads.
kitty slowly following pacino at the end, with him asking "well?" at the sight of her trailing behind him is such a fantastic and fitting conclusion. really shows the strength of the screenplay. joan didion did not come to play!
