lesbian period piece marathon: part 4 of 4
I FINISHED THE MARATHON LETS GOO
sorry it took me so long, i just took a little break from watching movies
this movie was a great restart to movies for me
review title: an unhinged lesbian and an unhinged bisexual fight for two hours and i love it
i loved this film, especially the second and third act.
The first act was good even though it was a bit slow. The script was amazing. It was dramatic and really funny at times which made this watch a lot more fun than a lot of other period piece movies. And yes once again this was written by a man however, there wasn’t any explicit sex scenes in it and the stuff it did show didn’t seem fetishy at all. On top of that, this film is less about the romance between the queen and both of her servants but more about the feud between her servants and the growth and decline of the queen. The drama in this film was crazy but based in truth which is so fun to see this as a biopic from the perspective of the queen and her advisor. The performances were all really good. Obviously, Emma Stones performance was stand out and you can tell she was so comfortable and almost made for this role. But I also think Olivia Coleman (who played the queen), was another really amazing role, you could always tell exactly what she was thinking just looking at her, which reflects how vulnerable the queen was at the time. Also ofc Racheal Weisz slayed but she always does. I think it was interesting the contrast of between the queen (who you could see through very easily) and Sarah (who was so stone faced and cold the entire time). However, Sarah was still a great character because you could still tell she cared about her country and the queen. And when Sarah breaks, it is even more impactful because it feels so out of place for her.
Cinematography and sets were obviously top notch, with beautiful colour palettes, lighting, and camera positions. The movement of the camera really helps capture the feel of the scene.
but go watch this movie, Lanthimos slayed once again
