Part of the Film School Dropouts Challenge
Week 39: Luis Buñuel
An absurd, dreamy, witty and cynical work about a group of upper class people never getting to finish their meals as they keep getting interrupted for various, outlandish reasons. It begins fairly normal and takes a bit to get going, but slowly Buñuel starts playing his usual, masterful tricks as he exposes the shallowness, the arrogance and the hypocrisy of the high class with ambiguity and a blend of comedy, drama, satire and surrealism ever so seamless. There's a lot of surprising dream sequences, dreams within dreams, and other wonderful and weird sequences with amusing reactions from our characters. A bit dry at times and I don't think I got all the symbolism and details, but still yet another playful, clever and oddly unsettling work from the man.
