The Jungle Book ★★★★

Pinpoints the middle ground between the venerable Disney classic and Rudyard Kipling’s original adventure. Visually lush with vibrant, well-drawn characters brought to life via excellent voiceover contributions (Bill Murray and Christopher Walken are, as ever delights), and truly breathtaking digital FX work, which arguably sets a new high water mark for the seamless integration of live action and animation. Not sure about the inclusion of the Disney approved songs, which don’t seem to comfortably fit into proceedings at all, but overall this is a striking, thrilling and ultimately uplifting treat, one of the year’s most consistently entertaining blockbusters.
