The Goalie's Anxiety at the Penalty Kick 1972
I once made a short film about an evil soccer goaltender, which I thought was a very original idea. Turns out Wim Wenders got there first!
I've always been ambivalent towards Wenders (love Wings of Desire, don't much care for Paris, Texas) but this one hit the spot - a Camus-like existential peek into a few days of the life of a murderous goalie (played uber-creepily by German actor Arthur Brauss). I guess I just respond enthusiastically to movies that coolly follow a psychopath around for a couple of hours.

Tontine Massacre 2010
Reality TV and found-footage films are two of my foremost interests, so I really really want to like something like this.... but I just can't. Don't get me wrong - I certainly love the idea of watching a purportedly "real" reality show go off the rails (even if American Cannibal kinda played around with this same concept a few years earlier), but that's not really what we get here. The problem is that the show itself is never really established…

Kevin Sorbo is still really mad about COVID-19 mandates. So in rebooting Left Behind for the contemporary age, the vanishings have now become a "pandemic", people have been forced into lockdown, and the mainstream media now peddles "vanishing vaccines" to safeguard against dubious further waves. At one point, Sorbo's character walks past graffiti that states "ALL SOULS MATTER"... groan.

Writer-director George Barry sadly passed away late last year, having never made another film. Truly an under-appreciated cinematic artist. RIP
