The original LOST. This movie makes some strong choices. It emphasizes action and spirituality. It doesn't tip its hand too much about who will survive.

The cannibalism is handled with a frankness that makes it quite relatable. Almost too frank. I definitely experienced revulsion at the scenes of casual flesh-eating.

I love a good survival story, and this is among the best.

This tale of a populist politician who wants to drain the swamp is hard to relate to. He gets elected and sinks into the swamp. He gets caught up in a scandal with an attorney general whom he blocks from investigating corruption.

Yes, a very fantastical, wild story. It also happens to parallel the story of Lousiana governor Huey Long. The novel, by Robert Penn Warren, is one of my favorites. This is a fine screen adaptation, but nothing beats reading the book. Unless, perhaps, it is living through the real thing.

The middle class remix of Babette's Feast, filled with all your favorites from the Miramax repertory company. I can see why everyone fell in love with Juliette Binoche. Va-va-voom!

I love the whole fabular tone of this film, with the Rachel Portman gypsy score and the red riding hoods.

This is the movie that dares to say that if people living a conservative, traditional, religious life could just have a taste of liberal decadence, they will experience a new plane…
