Mark Cunliffe 🌹’s review published on Letterboxd:
I think everything that I want to say about Stan & Ollie and just what Laurel and Hardy mean to me personally has been said by Steve G. So go and read his review instead.
What I will say is that Steve Coogan and John C. Reilly uncannily recreate the sketches, mannerisms and comedic tics of the legendary duo, but they are also superb actors who convey real characters away from the limelight too. As Bernard Delfont (Rufus Jones) remarks at one point though, this is a case of "two double acts for the price of one", so take a bow Nina Arianda and Shirley Henderson as Mrs Laurel and Mrs Hardy. I really enjoyed their bickering relationship and, just like with Stan and Ollie, we could see that beneath the issues there lay real warmth and affection.
John Henshaw delivering hardboiled eggs and nuts with his no-nonsense Manc drawl made me chuckle too.
