Nocturnal Animals

Nocturnal Animals ★★★★

I like my movies the same way I like my intimate partners: broody, stylish, vengeful, and not above making me watch a human being poop while they're completely naked and making use of a toilet which has been moved outside the residence with zero privacy for some reason.

Michael Shannon brings the most standout performance in a film starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Amy Adams, good job dude. Not that anyone else is bad, he's just really on his game here.

Nocturnal Animals is a cool, slick, glossy picture that somehow didn't hit me right at first watch, but one I haven't been able to get out of my head since viewing a few weeks ago which gives me cause to go ahead and label it 'special to me.' It's a fresh take on some good ol' emotional REVENGE, cleverly cheating to include violence in what is actually a non-violent story. The 'real' aspect of the plot fascinates me more than the 'fictional' tale taking place inside a novel, that part would be standard, almost generic 'good man goes bad to avenge his family' stuff out of context. But one can't work without the other here and hoo boy that context tho...
