Manu Beker’s review published on Letterboxd:
1917 was visually stunning, incredibly well directed and just overall an incredibly competent and well made film, but it does very little to distinguish itself from other films of its kind.
While the film looks and sounds incredible, no amount of great visuals can make up for the fact that it really does lack a good, compelling story. The plot in this movie is by no means bad but it's just not very original and at moments it can make the film feel like video game cutscene.
That being said, the fact that this film is shot the way it is, does detract from the lack of a conventional story and the movie ends up being very entertaining regardless. I just highly doubt I'll be revisiting this.
