Murder on the Orient Express

Oh good Christ this thing is hideous.

What a waste it is to film on 65mm and then lather on the visual effects. The framing is poor, compositions boring (the "Last Supper" moment is the definition of graceless), and its aesthetic choices (monochrome for flashbacks, Dutch tilts, fractured reflections, long takes) amount to redundancy. However, high palms to the interior design people: those carriages look sufficiently lavish.

It did have the potential to be brilliant schlock, but it affects a seriousness required for its awful conclusion (Christie's fault, admittedly) which it just cannot honestly earn.

A quite spectacular bore.
