An absolute knockout!
Rocketman is like being strapped into an electric chair, only to find that you’re being electrocuted with shocks of joy for two hours straight.
The choice to use a standard biopic formula and transform it into a surreal musical fantasy was honestly the best decision made here. Dexter Fletcher takes everything we are familiar with and injects the story with dazzling energy, resulting in a non-stop toe-tapping song and dance extravaganza, which also features one of the best musical sequences in a theme park setting since Grease (1978).
Everything was brilliant – the drama, the performances, the costumes…oh’ the costumes.
Taron Edgerton is sensational and was born to play Elton John.
It’s the kind of movie that reminds us all of why we need cinema whilst paying respectable homage to one of the greatest musicians of our time.
