A streamline plot, rich with character, yet it contains one of the most disturbing scenes of violence I've watched. (My hands shielded my face as my body cringed.) There also seems to be a social-political theme at work.
This film is brilliantly framed: it takes us from a statue to a book to a reader; to a colorful, fun, and sad world; then it brings us back to the statue and the book and the reader. Cinema. Literature. Life.
