The first third of "Escape from New York" drags on forever, but right after our protagonist's task starts, the movie gets pretty entertaining.
I was really impressed with the immaculate production design and the amazing visual effects, that added a lot to the dystopian feel of the movie.
In addition to that you have Kurt Russell, who is great as always and perfectly embraces the attitude of the protagonist Snake Plissken.
Sadly all the other characters are very one-sided and the screenplay is filled with clichés, which take the tension out of almost every important scene.
Nevertheless, John Carpenter created an over-average sci-fi flick, that says a lot about humanity and will keep your attention for most of its runtime.
