This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.

Few people have appreciated this for the horror masterpiece it is.

The first clue is when the guy's friends buy him a really nice acoustic guitar in a hardshell case. That's best part of a grand right there. Who spends that kind of money on their friends, honestly? An oligarch maybe. But not a primary school teacher and the assorted no-hope mates of a failed musician.

There's clearly more to this than meets the eye.

    Then he gets it out…

It is not a Christmas film.

    It is THE Christmas film.

I absolutely loved this. It's complex, ambitious, sad and very romantic. Carey Mulligan cannot put a foot wrong and Bradley Cooper really is a superb filmmaker. I can't wait to see what he does next.

I'll be honest, it was the end of a long day and I slept through large parts of this. The battles looked pretty epic though and Vanessa Kirby seemed to be doing a great job, so I gave it the star rating I imagined I would probably have given it if I'd seen the whole thing.

Thank god I don't write film reviews for a living, I'd be rubbish at it.

Well that started as 4.5 stars then lost half a star for every half hour it went over the maximum length any film should reasonably be. Get your shit together, Marty!

Just loved this. Very Truman Show/Being John Malkovich in how it let a single idea play out. After this and Massive Talent, I'm very much on board the late-period Cage bus and excited to see where it goes next.
