OK long post because i 1) am drinking 2) love cinderella 3) have just wrapped up on my course on classical fairy tales, so i have a lot of things to say. first of all i love this just as much as i did the first time, if not more. the cinderella story is just so.... it’s so GOOD, isnt it? we just really cannot get enough of it. it’s incredible. no other fairy tale can really do it like her. what i actually think is so interesting about the newer, worthwhile (imo) adaptations of this story (this one, cinderella 2015, ella enchanted, to name a few) is how much they all focus on cinderella’s kindness, her need to defend and protect the working class, and her empathy towards those less fortunate than her. these elements arent entirely that prevalent in the original perrault donkeyskin/cendrillon, or even the 1950 disney cinderella, really. i dont know how this version of the protagonist came to be, but every time i see her portrayed like this, i am always reminded how important she is. i personally think the story of cinderella has morphed into one of kindness, grit, and empathy out of necessity. seems like we all need a reminder once in a while that kindness does prevail, and that you must always try to protect those who might not be able to protect themselves. it’s kind of a shame we need to do it under the guise of a fictional fairy tale, but if this is the most accessible way to spread such love and light (and i think that it is!) then so be it! also, leonardo da vinci as the fairy godmother FUCKS!!!!!!
