    Amant Double

    ★★★

"Amant Double" is like the French version of "mother"!. A thriller that will defiantly divide its audience. A psycho-sexual nightmare that moves with its own dream logic and has few scenes that will stick to you mind for a long time. It also feels like something David Croneberg may have directed in the 1980s or 1990s if he was French.

"Amant Double" is usual Ozon fare. its well directed, playful, inventive and has tongue firmly in the cheek + it deals with directors many favorite topics : sexuality, identity and SPOILER - unreliable narrator - END SPOILER.

    Thief

    ★★★★½

Truly impressive feature film debut of Michael Mann.

Continuing what John Huston, Jean-Pierre Melville, Walter Hill and others had started and John Woo and Nicolas Winding Refn continued, "Thief" is ultra cool, stylish and poigant existential Neo-noir thriller with genre's best trappings. It has memorable characters, great performances, fatalistic world view, cool soundtrack, distinctive style and stunning visuals.

Film, that like the very best of Noir, is timeless and still feels fresh.

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes

    ★★★★

Beautifully made with a real sense of mood, tone, theme and character, Matt Reeves shows class and depth rarely seen in Hollywood blockbuster these days (think Gareth Edwards's "Godzilla", only really really good). Although treading the same water as "Battle for the Planet of the Apes" by telling the similar Cain and Abel story, it paints a more thoughtful picture about the possible future between men and apes.

While it lacks a truly satisfying and powerful ending that the Apes…
