Nanook of the North

Nanook of the North ★★★★

The shrill piping of the wind, the rasp and hiss of driving snow, the mournful wolf howls of Nanook's master dog typify the melancholy spirit of the North.

The Father of Documentary.
While certain scenes definitely was staged to make the Inuit people look more ancient and foreign for the audience, it’s still a fascinating documentary. You can’t stage a walrus hunt or the environment it’s filmed in.

There’s the feeling of going on this grand thematic expedition the documentary takes you on, that feeling of adventure particularly spoke to me. Definitely one of the most important piece’s of film from this era and a joy to watch!
