    Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway

Silly, childish, cheesy and a bit self deprecating... actually quite enjoyed it.
Nice film to take the kids to fir the first time in a long time

  • Tom Clancy's Without Remorse

    Tom Clancy's Without Remorse

    I wanted to love this.
It's right up my street plus Michael B. Jordan is an amazing talent

However, I was left quite disappointed, the pacing was off and it felt like far too much was crammed into 1 film so the story arcs weren't able to develop or build tension.

Some of the action is good and MBJ is good but it's all a little flat

  • Terminator 2: Judgment Day

    Terminator 2: Judgment Day

Rewatched again at the cinema as a treat.
So much to love about this film. Arnie is great.
It's a wonderful companion to the original, developing the themes and story whilst also being a very different film not just a cash in rehashing that story.
Another thing that really stands out is the use of real effects - there's so much cg these days that practical effects really look fantastic

  • Army of the Dead

    Army of the Dead

Strangely I felt that it was about 30 mins too long but at the same time was lacking in some exposition .... maybe take out some of the slo-mo and excessive use of lense flare and you solve both issues.
I thought it was very .... Zach Snyder. At times visually amazing and love some of the music choices and (big word alert) juxtaposition of music against visuals but as good as some of it looked it felt a bit…

Quite liked this, quirky, lighthearted and not overly soppy.
Knows what it is and what its trying to do

    Iron Sky: The Coming Race

Not a great film but did enjoy it for all its madness - bonus star for Hitler riding a T-Rex

  • Instant Family

    Instant Family

Ticks all the boxes. Laugh out loud funny at times but also has ALL the feels too!

  • Greenland

Gerard Butler gets a bit of a bad rap, I quite like a lot of his films especially the "has fallen" series which get a lot of stick but are quite fun, loud and entertaining AND responsible for one of my favourite film lines- you can probably guess what it is.

But anyway, I REALLY liked this film! It was super emotional and gets pretty dark in a couple of places. One thing I really is that unlike most end…

  • The Rhythm Section

    The Rhythm Section

One that I missed at the cinema which had looked "interesting"
Nothing particularly special or spectacular unfortunately. Several times it feels like it's about to shift up through the gears but doesn't really get going or build up continuous tension. There are a few decent sequences and some picturesque locations but I just felt it could have been a lot more.

Jude Law is decent in a quite different role BUT why does Blake Lively keep looking like Claudia Winkleman at several points through the film??

  • The Broken Hearts Gallery

    The Broken Hearts Gallery

I expected to dislike this, I almost "wanted" to dislike this .... I actually didn't!
I have a bit of a backlog of free rentals on Rakuten from my bank and noticed one was expiring this week so picked something I could watch with 'er indoors since a lot of the other films I've bookmarked on Rakuten she refuses to watch with me. So, pretty annoyed when she nodded off after 30 minutes - I could have been watching Korean…

  • Happy Death Day 2U

    Happy Death Day 2U

I think the Empire review really sums it up...
"What could have been a simple retread or by-numbers continuation instead throws itself headfirst into time-twiddling absurdity. High art? No. A total blast? You bet."

Just a good, fun film. Lots of silly bits, a splattering of blood and guts and a little bit of emotion too

  • Blithe Spirit

    Blithe Spirit

Surprisingly enjoyable. Not really a film I'd looked forward to with great anticipation, and I've not seen the original, but turned out to be really funny.
Leslie Mann is lovely to watch as always despite playing a vindictive, conniving ghost! Isla Fisher is really entertaining and Dan Stevens continues to rise up in my list of favourite actors.
Dame Judy Dench is excellent too - a return to a quality film after she was clearly somehow tricked into Cats and Artemis Fowl!
Lots of fun characters and lots of family friendly humour (and some for the adults too)
